I recently ran into my neighbor who's been sleeping outside in the cold. He told me that because he used up all his money for his daughter's funeral, he's unable to pay his rent so he had to leave his apartment. So I shared his situation with friends and different affinity groups and on Mastodon and fortunately people trusted me with their money and I was able to raise $820 for him which is enough to get him housed and get food in him.
Really happy how well this worked out. This is the future that I want for us: mutual aid instead of individualism and competition.
